According to Iranian media reports, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, Manteqi, said that 24 Iranian companies have obtained vehicle import licenses and will import 90,000 vehicles at the beginning of 1401 (March 20, 2023).
Some of the cars will be imported from China at a price of no more than 20,000 euros, for which the Central Bank of Iran will allocate $1 billion.
French cars were the first to enter the Iranian market, and Peugeot and Renault products have dominated the Iranian market for many years. At present, the largest car company in Iran, Khodro (IKCO), made its fortune relying on the cooperation with Peugeot, and the French car has a far-reaching influence on Iranian cars.
However, after the U.S. announced sanctions on Iran, French automakers withdrew from the Iranian market, and the only ones still stationed in Iran were Chinese automakers, especially after the signing of a 25-year long-term cooperation plan between China and Iran, the cooperation between Chinese automakers and Iran tighter.
According to the draft 25-year comprehensive cooperation plan between China and Iran, China will cooperate with Iran to build an auto industry town, which will carry out issues related to product design and road testing.
In this way, China can participate in the Iranian auto industry more deeply and widely than before, and even displace European automakers.
